Next generation Cricket farm
ALIA is a agrifrood start-up, born in 2020, based in Milan, Italy. The next generation cricket farm is located in Truccazzano, within the Food Agri Park of Blu Martesana, 40 km far from Milan City.
Multidisciplinary teams, with their skills and their passion, have worked on the project over the last two years. Alia is the first Italian Next Generation Cricket Farm for the production of Novel Food with edible insects 100% made in Italy.
Engineers, agronomists, veterinarians, food technologists, communication experts, lawyers are just some of the professionals with whom Alia Insect Farm began its challenge towards its ambitious goal: obtaining excellent foods based on 100% Italian edible crickets, aiming to optimum safety, quality and innovation.
Alia Insect Farm is currently targeting non-European markets, working on the due Novel Food Authorisations to get EU Novel Food Approval.
MISSION
ALIA mission is to provide the greatest number of people with the most innovative and high quality edible insect foods. Alia is working on spreading culture of entomophagy benefits as a new frontier for the next food revolution.
ALIA name
ALIA in Latin means “something different, an alternative”, and in fact in Alia Insect Farm new and alternative source of sustainable proteins are reared and produced, We believe that edible insects are a natural and nutritionally valid protein source to positively contribute to our diet. Our products are intended to give consumers an extra choice, an alternative food to increase variety in their diet variety, without compromises on safety, taste and quality.
We studied the transformation process with Dutch and Italian food technology experts, and when consultants visited our “farm” for the first time, they were impressed for the natural environment of ALIA location, surrounded by nature in a beautiful Italian country side, ready to be transformed in the the first cricket Italian farm for edible insect novel food 100% made in Italy.
Andrea and Cecilia
ALIA does not take its name only from the latin meaning of “alternative”. Two very young people are part of its history, who in some way inspired the purpose of the next generation cricket farm. They are two young contributors, Andrea and Cecilia, now respectively 12 and 8 years old. Part of their names, in a fanciful crasis, are hidden in A-LIA. Andrea and Cecilia drew the company logo in full lockdown in Milan. It was a fruitful brainstorming afternoon in March 2020!
It is also for them, for future generations, that Alia Insect Farm promises itself every day, thanks to the the work of all the passionate people working at the project, its commitment and contribution to a more sustainable world, having positive impact on people and planet health, for this and for future generations prosperity.
Next Generation Cricket Farm – founder
ALIA insect farm was founded by Carlotta Totaro Fila, graduated in Food Science and Technology, MSc and MBA. After 15 years of experience in food multinationals, she decided to connect the dots and mix her passion for food innovation with love for agribusiness. The project was born and developed with the ambition to create a next generation Italian cricket farm. Perfect allies of this dream were nature, sustainability, R&I and industry 4.0.
As innovative agri farm we would like to become attractive for young talents who want to get closer (again!) to the world of agriculture and agri-food.
Before setting up the next generation cricket farm, many people joined Alia’s project. Along the way they have contributed with knowledge, vision, multidisciplinary skills, defining ALIA’s strengths and market positioning. But we are only at the beginning of this wonderful journey: every day the Alia Insect Farm team gathers supporters and defines synergies, pivoting and developing leveraging strong network of knowledge and collaborations.
In Alia Insect Farm we write every day a page of our wonderful story, made of nature, agriculture, innovation, science and food love. Creativity and passion for sustainable future lead us towards new scenarios and new possibilities. We believe that the world of Novel Food and alternative proteins is a universe to be discovered, and we want to do so by combining the culture and humble knowledge of the agricultural world with the mastery and technology of Italian food innovation.
We are still only at the beginning of this beautiful story, the best is yet to come!
